Toggle fuel on and off by rotating the cylindrical piece — the fuel line stays stationary while you do it.

Many custom and aftermarket gas tanks use a 3/8" NPT petcock bung. NPT (National Pipe Thread) is a tapered thread that seals as you tighten the petcock into the fitting. If your tank has a 22mm bung, adapter nuts are available in brass or chrome to convert it to accept 3/8" NPT petcocks.
